Long time since I blogged on here

I have got to get back to blogging on here about tech and how to help people with new and existing tech.

Very handy keyboard shorcuts

Keyboard shortcuts have been around for a very long time.  They were once all you could use before the mouse came along and made life easier.
Yes, the mouse is nice that it allows you to point and click on items on the screen, but there are times where using the keyboard can make things faster.
If you can learn these easy shortcuts, you're on your way to becoming more of a computer geek than you know, and that is a good thing.
These shortcuts are focused on the Windows operating system.  It does not matter what version it is, unless you use a version earlier than Windows 3.1 of which then I do not know because I never used any Windows OS prior to 3.1.

Complete Delete
Typically when you delete a file in Windows, it does not go away forever. It usually ends up in the Recycle Bin in case you may need it for later or else you accidentally deleted the file by accident.
You can use the "Empty Recycle Bin" feature by either right clicking on the Recycle Bin itself or opening the Recycle Bin and click on the "Empty Recycle Bin" option in there.  That is nice, but to me that is a lot more work than necessary.
If you want to truly delete something without having to touch the Recycle Bin, you can use the following keyboard shortcut:

Shift+Del

All you do is hold down either of the two "Shift" keys next to the Z or / keys and then hit the Del key.  A message will pop-up and ask if you are sure you want to delete the file or files.  Clicking on yes wipes the files or files from the system, permanently!  So be aware that if you do click on yes when doing this shortcut, you are aware of what you are deleting because it's the point of no return after that.

Cut, Copy, and Paste

Using the mouse is nice to being able to use cut, copy, and paste, but I have found that using the keyboard can be a lot faster.

Ctrl + X = Cut
Ctrl + C = Copy
Ctrl + V = Paste

One advantage I find with using the keyboard is when I highlight the text with my mouse is that I wouldn't have to worry about accidentally moving the mouse when trying to cut or copy.  It can be very helpful when pasting because with a mouse I could accidentally move the text cursor to a different place with the mouse cursor if I move it say 1 pixel off. All I have to do is move the cursor to where I want it and then use the keyboard to do the function.

The first post!

Thanks for checking out my blogging site.  I know it's not much, but since it's just me operating on a very low budget, I need to figure out what to do and how to do it right.
